Terms and conditions
Medek Winery (www.vinarstvimedek.cz)
The Czech version is the binding one. This English text follows it as closely as English allows, and it is here so you can read our terms in your own language. Where the two ever differ, the Czech wording at vinarstvimedek.cz/obchodni-podminky is what applies.

These terms apply to buying from our shop. You accept them when you send an order.
The wine list and the basket are in English and the prices are in Czech crowns. Wine names and the mandatory label text stay Czech, exactly as on the bottle. The winery answers in Czech and in English, so write to us at any point and we will help you through it.
2. What our wine is like
It is made in the cellar on the hill below the little church in Derfle. Small batches, by hand, with as little intervention as we can manage.
We do not filter, and we use as little sulphur as the wine allows. Wine is alive, so it is sometimes faintly sparkling or a little cloudy. That is not a fault, it is what our way of working looks like in the glass.
We describe every bottle as precisely as we can, including whether it was bottled on the lees, whether no sulphur was added, and whether it has a light spritz.
3. You must be 18
We sell wine to people over 18 only. By sending an order you confirm you are of age. If it turns out an order was placed by a minor, we cancel it. If the parcel has already gone out, the cost of the wasted delivery is the buyer's.
4. Your order, and when the contract is made
You put your order together in the form in the shop. Please check everything before you send it.
Once you click the order button, an email with the summary and the payment details arrives straight away. It confirms that your order reached us, but the contract is not concluded by it. We treat your order as an offer and we accept it when we write to you to say we confirm it, or when we send the wine. The wines shown on the website are therefore not a binding offer to conclude a contract (we exclude Section 1732(2) of the Czech Civil Code).
5. An obvious error in a price or a description
We are only human and technology has its moments. If a wine carries an obviously wrong figure, most often a price that is nowhere near right (a Pálava at 10 CZK instead of 290 CZK), we will not confirm an order at that price and no contract comes about. The same goes for an obvious error in the description, the volume, the number of bottles or the delivery price, whether it appears on the website, in the confirmation email or on the invoice. If a contract somehow came about anyway, it is a mistake on our side under Section 583 of the Czech Civil Code and we are not bound by it.
What we do: we get in touch within two working days at the latest. We offer you the wine at the correct price, and if you would rather not take it, we send back everything you paid within 14 days, with nothing deducted. We ask nothing more of you.
We do the same when a wine sold out in the cellar before the system caught up.
6. Payment
Shipped orders are paid in advance by bank transfer; there is no cash on delivery. You can pay by ordinary transfer using the details in the confirmation email, or simply by scanning the QR code. Once the money arrives we pack and send. If you collect the wine yourself, you can pay cash when you come. The invoice comes by email.
7. Delivery
We send with the Messenger courier, who reloads parcels by hand and therefore does not break bottles. Now and then we use another carrier or drive the wine over ourselves. We deliver to Czechia, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Spain. The delivery price is shown in the basket.
We prefer to send parcels early in the week so they do not spend the weekend at whatever temperature a depot happens to be. Delivery usually takes 2 to 3 working days from payment. When something we do not control gets in the way, heavy snow, the carrier's van breaking down, a government measure, delivery can take longer. We cannot take responsibility for a delay like that, but we promise not to leave you in the dark.
8. Taking delivery, and broken bottles
Check the box when it arrives. If it is wet, damaged, or there is glass rattling inside, do not accept it. Fill in a report with the driver and let us know; we will sort it out and send new wine.
If you only find broken bottles at home, film a video that clearly shows the damage to both the wine and the packaging. Without a record, a claim against the carrier is hard to prove.
9. Storing the wine
Wine wants quiet, dark and cool, ideally around 10 °C. Keep it out of a car in the sun, away from anything above 20 °C, away from frost and out of direct sunlight. In the wrong conditions both the aroma and the taste change, and once the wine is with you we cannot answer for that. Put it somewhere cool as soon as it arrives.
10. What counts as a fault, and what does not
Our wines are unfiltered and lightly sulphured. Cloudiness and a fine spritz are natural, not faults.
A slightly aerated wine with a hint of apple skin or honey is fine. If oxidation overrides every other aroma and flavour, though, a flat taste, a nose of apple juice, then it is a fault and worth a claim.
Not liking the taste is not grounds for a claim, but you can return an unopened bottle within 14 days.
Cork taint should not happen; the cork producer screens the corks by machine.
If you suspect a fault (musty cork, mould, nail varnish, cabbage):
- Re-cork the bottle and put it in the fridge.
- Write to us at vase@vinarstvimedek.cz and add your phone number.
- We will agree how to check it and how to make it right.
For physical damage, follow the steps in the section on taking delivery. Document the problem and get in touch as soon as you can.
11. Our liability for faults
We are liable for faults the wine has at the moment you take delivery. By law you can claim for faults that show up within 24 months, but do bear in mind that wine is alive. If you come to us after six months saying something is off, we will look into whether the fault was in the bottle from the start or arose at your end, an unsuitable temperature being the usual reason. For wines whose label carries a best-before date, our liability ends on that date.
12. Cancelling within 14 days
By law you can withdraw from the contract within 14 days of taking delivery. We refund unopened bottles with the seal intact only, for hygiene reasons. The return postage is yours.
How to do it:
- Write to vase@vinarstvimedek.cz and give your order number.
- You can use: "I withdraw from the contract for the order of XXX CZK paid from account YYYY and ask for a refund to the same account." The model form attached to these terms works just as well.
- Pack the bottles safely and send them to: Na Kopci 68, Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic.
- Once we have checked them we refund the money, usually within 14 days of the parcel arriving.
13. If something goes wrong
Get in touch. We always try to find a way.
- Call Jarmila on +420 773 581 566 or write to vase@vinarstvimedek.cz.
- Describe the problem; a photo or a video helps.
- We answer as soon as we can, usually within three working days.
14. Your personal data
We look after your data. The controller is Josef Medek, company ID 10100962.
- We process your name, contact details and address in order to handle your order, that is, to perform the contract.
- We keep them for as long as handling the order requires, and after that for as long as the law says.
- Your data can be seen by the carrier, our accountant and the suppliers of our technical services.
- You have the right of access, rectification, erasure and objection.
- Complaints are handled by the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚOOÚ), and you may also turn to the supervisory authority in your own country.
We may send an existing customer an email with news, on the basis of our legitimate interest, where they agreed to it with their order. Do not worry, we write once in a blue moon and every email has an easy way out.
We suggest addresses in the basket from our own copies of the national address registers, held on our own server: what you type into the address goes nowhere else. 15. Cookies
Our website uses technical cookies so that the basket and the shop work. We use no analytics or marketing cookies.
16. Where we ship
We deliver to Czechia, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Spain. To Slovakia it takes a day or two longer than within Czechia, to the other countries a few days more. We are not registered for VAT, so the prices you see are the final ones. The frizzante travels within Czechia only. We do not ship anywhere else at the moment, but you are welcome to collect the wine at the winery; write to us and we will agree a time.
17. Out of court dispute resolution
If we cannot put things right between us, you can turn to the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (adr.coi.cz), which settles consumer disputes out of court. As a consumer you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in.
18. Validity
These terms have applied since 6 August 2026. What counts is the wording published at the moment your order is sent.
